Macy's is one of the largest omni-channel fashion retailers in the United States. The Americain department store chain, headquartered in New York, operates nationwide and owns more than 550 locations. Along with a large selection of apparel, accessories and jewelry, Macy's offer includes eveything you need for your home. Macy's Herald Square flagship store in New York is one of the largest department store in the world and the starting point of the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, held by Macy's since 1924.
Rowland Hussey Macy's beginnings in the retail business weren't really successful, but he knew how to learn from his mistakes. After the four dry goods stores he openend between 1843 and 1855 failed, he moved to New York City and opened a new store he named R. H. Macy & Co. , in 1858. Macy's business grew steadily and he was able to open more locations. Macy died less than 20 years later but the company stayed in the family until 1895, when the Straus brothers, already in partnership with Macy, purchased it. Macy's flagship store moved to Herald Square in 1902 and grew into the largest store in the world in 1924. That same year, Macy's held its first Thanksgiving Day Parade. As the company expanded, Macy's started to buy and open stores nationwide, building a chain of more than 550 department stores. Macy's logo has always featured a red star. A symbol of success, it's also a tattoo that R. H. Macy got when he was a teenager and working on a whaling ship.
