In 2000, Robert Echols and Phil Pfeffer founded the Essex Technology Group in LaVergne, Tennessee. They specialized in buying excess and closeout products to resell them at bargain prices. At the time, they focused on computers and electronics but later extended their offer. Their first store, Essex Bargain Hunt, was opened in 2004 in Nashville. That name was later changes to Bargain Hunt. As of today, the company owns 89 stores in Southern and Midwest United States.
